FLOORING GRADES
Character
grade
All of our woods are custom milled, meaning we produce a very unique grade of lumber for our flooring. Other mills will separate out the Mission & Craftsman style "Rift and Quartersawn" wood for furniture makers. We prefer to include this high grade wood in our floors, it creates a very dynamic and interesting quality floor that really distinguishes Green Mountain Flooring from the more common commodity hardwood floors out there.
We produce our floors into two distinct appearance grades:
SELECT GRADE
Virtually clear with occasional small tight pin knots. A very modern looking floor no matter which wood you choose. Includes all of the wood's typical color range. We run our select floors to 3", 4", 5" and sometimes 6" widths.
CHARACTER GRADE
Highlights the structurally sound natural character features of the wood including knots, checks and small fill-able holes. Includes the full color range typical for the wood. A more casual floor without being too country. We run character grade floors 3" up to 8" wide.
