We have some customers who use their
butcher blocks as a large cutting board and others who treat them
like fine furniture. In both cases, scrape off excess
food and just wipe clean with a damp sponge after use. Avoid
harsh detergents and puddles of standing water. That's it!
Maintenance depends on how you use it
and what finish was specified.
NATURAL OIL finish
is a unique blend of raw (not boiled) linseed and tung oils. You
can use these countertops just like a cutting board. Because
wood is a natural, living material, it continually absorbs more oil,
so regular re-oiling will be necessary to maintain the wood's
original luster,
just like you should be doing with all of your wooden ware in the
kitchen. Re-oiling is simple, just spread oil evenly
over the surface, allow it to soak in for about 5 minutes then wipe
the excess off with a clean rag. It's that easy!
MARINE GRADE OILfinish creates a satin matte protective
coating on top of the surface of the butcher block, sealing
the wood and protecting it from moisture absorption. It is NOT
a thick- plastic looking finish, think more the feel of antique fine
furniture. This finish is great around sinks but is not designed for cutting on
(you don't want to cut through the protective finish). Marine
Grade Oil finished butcher blocks won't need regular re-oiling.
